[] what founds the nature of Photography is the pose. The physical duration of this pose is of little consequence; even in the interval of a millionth of a second (Edgerton's drop of milk) there has still been a pose, for the pose is not, here, the attitude of the target or even a technique of the Operator, but the term of an "intention" of reading: looking at a photograph, I inevitably include in my scrutiny the thought of that instant, however brief, in which a real thing happened to be motionless in front of the eye.

Op de blinde onderkant noteert iemand : Qui? De dame op de foto is onbekend.

Barthes, Camera lucida, bladzijde 89 : The photographic image is full, crammed: no room, nothing can be added to it.

Aan de vraag wie de jongedame op de foto is, voegt de persoon die niet weet wie de jongedame is een datum toe, wat hij wel weet of wat zij zich herinnert, Pâques 1963. Ik bekijk de foto en vraag me af waar de foto genomen werd. Een dag aan zee, paaszondag, 14 april 1963. Wat ik zie is open, niet ingevuld : ik zie het strand, een mosselbank, de vloedlijn, een silhouet dat zich voorbij die natte lijn vlak bij de branding bevindt en iemand die het anonieme icoon van de foto is.
